Naceu o 9 de abril de 1933 en Zurich, lugar onde finou hai 7 días.
En 1955 integrouse na axencia Magnum.
Retratou a Pau Casals, Che Guevara, Le Corbusier, Alberto Giacometti, Picasso e a moitos outros pensadores, políticos e artistas.
Pero tamén fixo reportaxes políticas e sociais, paisaxes, arquitectura e industria.
Dicía: " Nunca pensei que chegaría a ser fotógrafo".
